Where the data comes from
Everything on this site is built from public government and open data — and
nearly all of it needs no API key. This page catalogs every layer, its source,
and how fresh it is. Half the point of AirWV is showing that this data is out there
and connectable — so if you want to build your own tool, start with our
Data Sources field guide
(the how-to for tapping each source) and the scripts/ that pull them.
Each source below links to its authoritative home. In the app,
every layer also carries its source and "as of" date, and each record links back to the official
record (EPA ECHO report, WV DEP well record, NRC report, …). Attribution: US EPA, USGS, WV DEP,
US Coast Guard / NRC, Microsoft, Iowa State Mesonet, and PurpleAir — with thanks to the open
OpenAQ project, which is how we
learned to reach EPA's own air feeds. Government data is provisional and not a regulatory
determination.
